GAC Filtration

ACME Environmental’s Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filtration Trailers provide clients with a cost-effective alternative to disposal at off-site facilities. Our GAC Filtration Trailers effectively remove contaminants from industrial, municipal, and commercial liquid streams. Liquid is pumped through two 1,000-pound vessels containing GAC to which dissolved organic chemicals adsorb. The volume of liquid waste stream that can be treated, as well as the flow rate, is determined by the liquid streams’ chemical characteristics.

Applications Include
  • Groundwater Remediation
  • Wastewater Filtration
  • Underground Storage Tank Cleanup
  • Pipeline Hydrotesting
  • Construction Dewatering

Hydrostatic Testing

During hydrostatic testing, pipelines are pressurized using water. Upon completion, the water is pulled from the pipeline and put into a frac tank. While in the frac tank, any hydrocarbon residuals will float to the top of the tank. Our first step in the water remediation process is to fill our carbon tanks with enough water to take confirmation samples, which requires that both carbon tanks be full of water. As soon as we receive a clean water sample, we will continue with the remediation process.

The speed of the remediation is determined by how contaminated the water is. The more contaminated, the slower we must run it through the carbon tanks. The less contaminated, the faster the process is.

Once completed, all that will be left in the frack tank will be the hydrocarbon residual.

In most cases, a vac truck will be utilized to pull that last bit out of the frac tank and dispose of it appropriately. We do this to prevent the product from running through the carbon tanks, which could result in a full granular changeout.

The cost of utilizing the carbon trailer would be a daily rate of the trailer, plus truck and labor if utilizing ACME employees. The hose and pump are included in the daily rental. Depending on the usage and hydrocarbon intake, a full granular change-out might also be billed.
