About ACME

ACME Environmental is committed to providing our customers with safe and quality environmental services. ACME invites you to spend a few minutes watching our company safety video discussing our safety culture and approach to our employees, customers and subcontractor’s safety.

Howard Stanfield founded ACME Products in 1967 as an environmental product manufacturer. ACME Products became a pioneer in the oil spill product manufacturing industry and was one of the first companies in the world to manufacture oil spill containment boom and oil spill skimmers. Prior to the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and the inception of the Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) program, ACME supported major events across the world with oil spill products. These events included the Amoco Cadiz Oil Spill (1978, Brittany, France), Bay of Campeche Oil Spill (1979, Gulf of Mexico) and Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (1989, Prince William Sound, Alaska). ACME loaded aircrafts at the Tulsa International Airport bi-weekly with environmental products that were delivered to Alaska to support cleanup operations.

After the Exxon Valdez, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 was passed by the 101st United States Congress and signed by George H. W. Bush. The Act amended the Clean Water Act and addressed issues related to but not limited to preparation and cleanup of oil spills. A portion of the Act created an Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) program. The voluntary program was created to prevent plan holders from presenting detailed list of response resources and strategies in the event their vessel or facility experiences a release into the environment.

Response contractors who are part of the OSRO program are evaluated by the US Coast Guard on their capabilities to meet or exceed requirements set forth in the program. Response contractors are evaluated based on the amount of containment boom, temporary storage capacity, skimmer capacity and response time. Additionally, contractors are required to document monthly maintenance on all response equipment and complete at least two deployments per year.

ACME’s environmental product demand increased significantly after the inception of the OSRO program. Since ACME had the expertise to operate all of the equipment, ACME decided to begin cleaning up oil spills. ACME became the tenth company registered in the program, with over 500 companies now registered. ACME Products focused on product manufacturing and spill response until 2005 when the company was purchased by Andrew Altendorf. ACME Products re-named to ACME Environmental Inc. to better reflect the nature of ACME’s business and mission. Since 2005, ACME has supported national responses with personnel and/or equipment at the 2010 BP Macondo Oil Spill, 2014 Kirby Barge Collision and the 2015 Avian Bird Flu Outbreak along with numerous regional spill cleanups. For information and details on some of ACME’s recent projects, please reference section 2.4.1.

In 2013, ACME created a remediation division to better support its customer’s needs as it related to cleanup of contaminated soil. The remediation division expanded to ACME Remediation LLC in Oklahoma City through acquisition of equipment and experienced remediation personnel in April of 2016. ACME Remediation core services include contaminated soil excavation with off- site disposal, in-situ blending/stabilization and ex-situ chemical oxidation treatment utilizing portable remediation units. ACME’s current customers include midstream, upstream, downstream oil and gas companies as well as environmental spill contractors and consultants, environmental distributors, the cranberry industry, and refineries.

During the past 50 years, ACME Environmental has grown from an environmental product manufacturer and distributor to a diversified environmental company supporting cleanup operations from the initial emergency response to the final site grading. The longevity of the company can be contributed to loyal and hard-working employees committed to safety and the support of the oil and gas industry in oil spill response and clean up.

In closing, ACME Environmental has personnel with a combined total of 50 years of experience in the oil spill industry and 35 years or experience in the remediation industry.
