ACME Environmental at IOSC and ETFC 2024
During the week of May 13th, 2024, ACME Environmental attended and exhibited at both the International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) in New Orlean’s, LA, and TCEQ’s Environmental Trade Fair and Conference (TCEQ) in Austin, TX. Both shows were well attended events that provided ACME with the opportunities to meet with new and old colleagues in our industry, while showcasing new and exciting service and product offerings with each! One of these updates is the recent inclusion of a full-fledged emergency preparedness and response digital dashboard that allows everyone on site access to the best, real-time information to make data driven decisions in the field.
International Oil Spill Conference 2024
In New Orlean’s, our President, Andrew Altendorf, Marketing and Sales Director, Logan Armstrong, and Business Development Director, Brett Benton, attended IOSC and had the opportunity to meet with spill contractors and equipment manufacturers in our industry from around the globe! On Monday, ACME representatives were able to attend the Spill Control Association of America (SCAA) and UK & Ireland Spill Association (UKEIre) joint meeting during which a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the two Associations. Learn more about this on SCAA’s most recent LinkedIn post!
On day three of IOSC, SCAA and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) coordinated and provided an exhibit area called the Mechanical Recovery Display and Demonstration that allowed companies to put their equipment on display for everyone at the show to see and learn more about. In the Containment and Recovery section, ACME was asked to provide our portable Containment Boom display stand, which showcases two of the many different types of boom we provide, as well as a portable Folding Containment Berm. This was a new effort organized at this show, and ACME is honored we were asked to take part in this initiative. IOSC provides the perfect opportunity to gather associations and organizations from all over the world and foster conversations on how to tackle the greatest challenges our industry is facing and demonstrate the different areas of expertise and capabilities of companies from a global perspective.
TECQ’s Environmental Trade Fair and Conference 2024
Meanwhile, Director of Operations, Derek Ellwood, and Operations Foreman, Manny Hernandez, attended the ETFC hosted by TCEQ in Austin to meet with customers and other spill contractors to promote our Ex-Situ Remediation process for on-land petroleum product spills. With over 300 exhibiting companies in attendance, the ETFC conference and tradeshow is a huge platform to showcase these capabilities and get to know other members of our industry that may face on-land spills in the southern parts of the USA. The ETFC has been bringing together members of our industry from across all sectors for over 30 years, and provides professional development courses and training for hundreds of attendees.
Real Time Event in Galveston and ACME’s Digitally Enhanced Emergency Response Dashboard
During these events on the morning of May 15th, word travelled quickly around the exhibit halls of these events as a barge had lost control and collided with a pillar of the Pelican Island Causeway in Galveston, TX. This caused the spilling of thousands of barrels of petroleum product into the surrounding waterways. As soon as ACME got word, we immediately opened our digital response dashboard, powered by Rapid Response Systems’ RRapidmapS, and were able to show, in real time, what was happening on the scene. This dashboard is a part of our new Digitally Enhanced Emergency Response, or D.E.E.R., services that will bring in new technology that is constantly growing and improving to help us make the right calls when an emergency occurs, and better prepare ourselves and our customers for these before they even happen.
In a real-time scenario, we were able to provide fast, reliable information about the surrounding areas of the spill, protected species, flooded wetlands, universities, hospitals, population density, and even current flow rate of the affected waterway to predict how quickly this oil was going to travel. We did all of this from one single dashboard, nearly 400 miles away. Being able to properly equip personnel with the knowledge they need before even arriving on site is not only important; It can be lifesaving. If there were ever a place to introduce and showcase such a groundbreaking achievement of technology, this was it.
While this event is still ongoing, ACME is not affiliated with any of the response efforts in Galveston at this time, other than supplying containment boom and other response equipment to the spill contractors on site.
Why is This Important for ACME Environmental?
This week was an achievement for ACME Environmental. For the first time ever, ACME Environmental was able to spread out and cover multiple shows at once in two different states. This is all thanks to newly introduced and rapidly growing technological advancements in our practices, as well as our current expansion to find and bring in more and more well-equipped and hard-working team members. As ACME continues to expand and introduce new and never before utilized practices in our industry, we are excited that all of our loyal colleagues, customers, and friends will get to be a part of the journey with us.
