Turbidity Curtain FAQs

Turbidity Curtain FAQs

Is there a difference between a turbidity, sediment, or silt curtain / barrier?

No. Different terminology is just used in different industries.

What fabrics are used for ACME’s turbidity/silt curtains?

ACME uses a variety of fabrics depending on the application of the silt curtain. Silt curtains can be installed for a long-term application or short term application. Therefore, materials range from standard 22 ounce PVC fabrics to extremely durable 30 ounce geotextile fabric. When filter screen skirts are needed, a permeable fabric is used for the skirt. Geotextile fabrics offer exceptional durability and quality RF (radiofrequency) welding characteristics. The permeable fabric specifications will vary depending on the percent open area needed for the final application. All permeable fabric is sewed directly onto the skirt and log pocket.

Does ACME keep an inventory of turbidity/silt curtains?

Because ACME’s silt curtains are fully customized to meet specific needs and applications, ACME does not keep turbidity/silt curtains in inventory. However, ACME will work hard to make sure all of your deadlines are met and the floating baffle is manufactured to your exact specifications.

Do turbidity/silt curtains require maintenance?

Yes, all curtains will require maintenance. The amount of maintenance will vary depending on the size and application of the silt curtain. ACME manufactures the each curtain with furling lines to allow for easy de-silting of the chain ballast and relocation of the baffle. A maintenance plan to visually check the integrity of the exposed fabric and to remove any floating debris should be implemented after a silt curtain has been installed. A well developed maintenance plan will help keep your silt curtain in quality condition for the life of the product.
