Its extremely rugged construction and excellent resistance to weathering provide years of reliable, low-cost performance. ACME Perma-Boom is perfect for oil debris containment and for the exclusion of floating pollutants from sensitive facilities or areas.
Product Features & Materials
- Heavy duty, high strength, PVC-coated polyester conveyor-belting membrane
- Marine growth and UV inhibitors for years of low maintenance
- High visibility, unsinkable rotary molded polyethylene floats filled with closed cell urethane foam
- ASTM or universal-style marine-grade aluminum boom connectors to mate with existing inventories
- Corrosion-resistant stainless steel hardware
Application Areas for Custom Perma-Boom
A Perma-Boom provides a heavy-duty floating barrier for long-term containment projects. Ideal for marinas, moving water, lakes, or even ports and streams, they can be used in a variety of applications:
- Contain oil spills from spreading and deflect the oil to a suitable collection point on the shoreline for removal.
- Marine debris. Control marine debris, trash, aquatic plants, and pollutants.
- Industrial applications. Protect inlets, outlets, or channels in industrial applications such as refineries.
Durability and Longevity of a Perma-Boom
A containment boom of ours can be cleaned and reused, reducing waste compared to disposable boom options. Our heavy-duty materials such as high strength, PVC-coated polyester conveyor-belting membrane and corrosion-resistant stainless-steel hardware contribute to years of low maintenance and long-term effectiveness.
Perma-Boom Specifications
Perma-Boom Heavy Duty Pvc & Urethane Barriers Specifications
Flotations:
Flotation units are tough polyethylene shells that are impregnated with UVEX™, an antioxidant and ultraviolet protection package that makes them exceptionally color-stable and highly resistant to UV degradation. The shell is filled with oil-impervious closed-cell foam. The standard color is international orange, however, yellow and black are also available.
End Connectors
Connectors can be supplied in various configurations:
- Heavy-duty PVC in a modified universal slide design with TruGrip™ flanges
- Aluminum ASTM F962-04 Quick-Latch or Z connectors
- Aluminum ASTM F2438-04 slide connectors
- US Navy male/female connectors available on request
Ballast
Ballast is accomplished by molded lead weights affixed to the skirt bottom.
Hardware
Standard attachment hardware for floats, ballast, and end-connectors is stainless steel.
Standard Sizes
18″ width by 100’ length (Freeboard 11′ x skirt 7″)
24″ width by 100’ length (Freeboard 11′ x skirt 13″)
36″ width by 100’ length (Freeboard 12′ x skirt 24″)

Installation and Maintenance of a Perma-Boom
Perma-Boom Handling
Packaging and wrapping should be removed from your new Perma-Boom with care to avoid damage.
Perma-Boom Installation
Perma-Boom can come with an accessory called a tide riser which allows the boom to adjust to various water levels, rising and lowering along the length of the tide riser. This allows for an easy deployment of Perma-Boom in open water areas, making it easy to connect to additional sections. When regarding maintenance of the Perma-Boom, there are a few factors that must be considered. Perma-Boom utilizes heavy-duty, unsinkable rotomolded floats that contain a closed-cell foam. Even though these are heavy-duty, if they are damaged and cracked, they will need to be replaced. Cracking can come from long-term sun exposure which can decrease the integrity and floating capacity of the boom if not replaced. Perma-Boom needs to be cleaned thoroughly.
The heavy-duty, PVC-coated polyester includes UV and marine growth inhibitors to allow for lower amounts of maintenance. Over time, some types of vegetation can attach themselves to the boom and grow from the belting. The vegetation should be cleaned off every 6 months or so. This can be done by removing the boom from the water or raising it above water level and can be power washed to remove vegetation. It can also be cleaned using a long-handle scraper to scrape off any vegetation. These marine plants will not damage the belting but can weigh it down to a point where it is not able to float at full capacity. In the event of a spill, oil can become trapped between the floats, belting, and bolts. When this happens, floats can be removed from the fasteners to be cleaned through power washing. When cleaning, it is suggested to observe and take the proper cleaning measures immediately after the oil contaminants have been removed.
Perma-Boom Maintenance
Harsh chemicals and fuels should not be used to clean a boom. An oil “stain” is far less harmful to the boom fabric than the damage diesel does when scrubbing the boom down. A mild detergent and medium-bristled brush are ideal for cleaning the surface of your boom. Power steam cleaning should be done with caution as weakened seams and welds may separate from heat and pressure. Rinse the boom thoroughly, allow it to fully dry, and inspect for any damage prior to storage.
Perma-Boom Storage
A Perma-Boom should be clean and free of contaminants when stored. A boom should always be stored out of direct sunlight as U-V radiation shortens fabric life. When possible, a boom should not be stored directly on the ground to prevent mildew and rodent infestation. When storing a boom for long periods, rat poison should be placed with the boom.
